Karl Emil Ståhlberg (1862–1919) was a creative entrepreneur who worked with photography, modernising it in Finland in the 1890s. In 1904 he opened the first cinema in Helsinki and from 1906 he became the first film producer in Finland. In the 1910s he owned an operetta and cinema palace with hotel, restaurant and café Apollo. His wife Sonja, born Sofia Gerasimova in Irkutsk, Siberia, financed a great part of his projects.
In 2012 we celebrated 150 years since the birth of Karl Emil Ståhlberg with exhibitions, lectures, a documentary film and events. In 2013 a biography about him was published. It received an award (diploma) in the contest of most beautiful books in 2013.
